Established as a company in 1988, Merlin Design Services Ltd has diversified from being a manual drafting board engineering service to fully embracing the Computer Aided Design & Drafting technologies available. Primarily Bentley Microstation/Aecosim/Open Buildings Designer and occasionally SolidWorks.
Our first contract was with a company called Impactex, with which we helped develop a secure parcel drop off unit for The Post Office in the UK, and the glazing used for the control tower at Faslane Submarine Base. Our primary client base was in Rolling Stock design and development for the British Rail network and Transport for London (TfL). Since 2015 we have been involved in the creation of new communications installations used by London Underground and Network Rail, which has led us in the world of BIM. This involved CCTV, PA/VA and control cabinets placement within a Common Data Environment (CDE), along with the relevant CMS and support infrastructure.
In 2022 in partnership with Firstco we completed the layouts for PA/VA at the new terminal for Stansted Airport. This diverse clientele has given a broad spectrum of experience, but we are always guided by the client’s expertise and in-house engineers.
